Scope of Service:
The Book-a-Librarian service is available Tuesdays at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
The Book-a-Librarian service covers a wide range of topics including but not limited to:
Research: Help with finding and evaluating information sources, database searching, and citation management.
Technology: Support with using digital library resources like e-collections, library databases, and other digital tools.
Basic computer skills: Instruction on basic computer operations, internet browsing, and software applications.
Basic device troubleshooting: While we cannot provide electrical or programming help with devices we aim to assist patrons with troubleshooting issues with personal devices and helping them find the appropriate resources for IT repairs and assistance.
Duration and Frequency of Appointments:
Each appointment typically lasts up to 45 minutes to ensure sufficient time for thorough assistance. Patrons may schedule additional appointments as needed, subject to availability and the discretion of library staff. The frequency of appointments may be limited during peak demand periods to accommodate all patrons seeking assistance.
Cancellation and Rescheduling:
Patrons are requested to provide at least 24 hours' notice if they need to cancel or reschedule their appointment. Failure to provide timely notice for cancellations may impact the patron's ability to schedule future appointments. If for any reason the library is not able to accommodate the request for assistance - due to lack of expertise or unforeseen circumstances - the patron will be contacted as soon as possible to cancel the session and if possible, to provide a referral.
Limitations of Service:
This service may not be able to fulfill all requests or inquiries. Library staff will make reasonable efforts to assist patrons within the scope of their expertise and available resources. Complex or specialized inquiries may require referral to external experts or resources. Staff providing this service cannot:
Enter a patron’s personal details or passwords for the patron.
Librarians cannot complete applications or paperwork for patrons.
Librarians cannot provide editing, copywriting, or secretarial services.
Librarians can only offer library-related information assistance. They cannot offer legal, medical, or financial advice or assistance.
